Australia crowned by Oscars

The cartoon shorts Oscar went to The Lost Thing (pictured), directed and written by Shaun Tan and also directed by Andrew Ruhemann. About a boy and a strange creature he finds on the beach, the film was produced by Sophie Byrne of Melbourne’s Passion Pictures, and features the voice of Australian comedian Tim Minchin.

The Lost Thing was supported under Screen Australia’s Talent Escalator programme for short animation production. The programme aims to provide a career progression for leading emerging animation talent and supporting a new creative generation.
