Kaitan City wins Grand Prize Lino Brocka Award
Kumakiri Kazuyoshi’s “Sketches of Kaitan City” from Japan won the Grand Prize Lina Brocka Award at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival.
The film, which recently competed at the Tokyo International Film Festival, also won the best actor award for its ensemble cast.
The jury of the international competition — composed of producer Vincent Nebrida, actress Iza Calzado and Film Business Asia’s Stephen Cremin — awarded Kaitan City the top prize for “its moving and keenly observed portrait of a contemporary city, its sharply drawn characters and finely calibrated performances.”
The festival trophy — designed by local sculptor Napoleon Abueva — is in the shape of a “bulol”, a deity that ensures a good harvest.
