Channel NewsAsia’s documentary series “Asia’s Monarchies” received a commendation at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prizes 2010 in Japan.

The episode “Long Live the Emperor” examined the role of the Japanese Imperial family, the oldest hereditary monarchy in the world.

The documentary examines Japan’s controversial role in World War II and its impact on the monarchy.

The hour-long programme also highlights how the crisis of a male heir to the throne led to soul-searching among the Japanese people.
