The battle for supremacy among Bollywood’s biggest stars has embraced the small screen. What adds a sense of drama to the small screen war are the real-life personal and professional equations between the stars.

“When Shah Rukh Khan replaced Amitabh Bachchan on KBC 3, it clearly strained their relationship,” says film writer Dilip Thakur.

“Indian audiences thrive on voyeurism, which a show like Bigg Boss provides a lot of,” says an industry-watcher. “KBC is comparatively serious.”

Punitha Arumugam of Madison Media says the stars are interested in TV because the money is good. “The remuneration is much more than what a star gets from films, and the time invested too is much less,” she says.
