Tsai is Pusan’s Filmmaker of the Year

Tsai Ming-liang was today named as the recipient of the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award which will be presented during the Pusan festival next month, 7 – 15 October.

“His 30-year long devotion to filmmaking has greatly influenced Asian Cinema and made considerable contributions to enhance the global status of Asian Cinema,” said the festival in a statement announcing the award.

Tsai was born in Malaysia, but has worked extensively in Taiwan and is one of the most eminent figures among the ‘Second New Wave’ of Taiwanese directors.
